Yesterday and Today
Friday, 30 March 2007
Wow I can't believe it, I spent hours trying to figure out how to log in, just to know its just my hotmail account and password ==.
Anyway yesterday I took my timing for 1.5km for sports day in a trial. It was 5min 52sec. I was overjoyed! I've never achieve this timing before! Then I got to know that the fastest last year was 4min 30sec plus. So much for all my training for 10km. I am still slow. I did a 400m run too, and it was 1min 13sec, which was ok for me since I'm not a sprinter.
After the trials I went to Expo for prayer meeting. On the trip I got this idea of balancing in the train without support even if its starting or stopping. There I was trying not to lean forward nor backward while the train jerk halfway on the journey. It was really difficult. I gave up in the end. Finally I reached Singapore Expo after running as far as possible as I was late. The atmosphere was great! There was a large crowd and the hall was filled to its limits. We prayed for various items for Easter like friends responding to our invitation and cell group growth to Sun's and church's health and strength as we continued our humanitarian aid. Although I reached home really late (11.30pm), it was a meaningful nightout.
For today's physical conditioning, my class and I were to run a 2.4km timed trial. However I did not do my best, stopping after 2rounds. Partly it was muscle ache from yesterday's balancing act, partly was that my friend ran faster than me even though I had much training. I couldn't remember the timing, but I'm not interested in knowing anyway.
Although it was a sad day, it still had its upside. For GP lesson today we were on the topic education. We didn't do much, but we were assigned to research into various education system in different countries. My group got US. When I read through articles pertaining to their system, I realised their system was very simple, very much like Singapore's old system, but still it has much fluidity from my point of view. They have a compulsory mainstream education of 12years, from 5-17years old, similar to Singapore's policy of compulsory primary education, which is broken up into elementary, junior high and senior high level. They spent 5 years in elementary education, 4years in junior high and 3years in senior high, while in Singapore one spent 6years in primary level, 4years in junior high level, and 2years in senior high. However in US it is believed that some students with high apltitude do badly in test because the test is too easy for them, and they are placed in gifted programs. This would reduce their free time and induce their minds to work, maximising their potential. In Singapore it is the results that determine the apltitude of the students, and students who
score well are thought to have higher apltitude. Hence the US system is more flexible in determining the students' capability.

My First Time Blogging
Wednesday, 28 March 2007
Well after skimming through blogs (seems like alot, but only read some XP ), I cant say just how much am I influenced. So yup! my first blog..
Currently I'm training for a 10km run for an event in my church, called Emerge. Been training for 3weeks, but only able to run 3km within 12++min. Every time I plan to run, my body would never fail to give me the tired feel. Luckily God is with me (my apologies to those of other faith and those without.. for I feel that it is weird to declare your faith in the first post) and pulled me through. Well the road may be tough, but I believe I can run 10km within 30-40min by 28april (>.<) As for my latest grades, its A for math A for phy C for chem and S for GP (at the point in time, my econ grade is still a mystery). I would say its not very good, for i only got borderline 'A's and the rest is obvious. Must start working hard; 'A' level this year. My aspiration is to be a Material Scientist. The reason is very simple: the word 'material' seems cool. But interest includes economics, dance, music and human behavioural studies ( did you know that the language you use can reveal your character? Take for example, in singlish, 'its like that one
lah', meaning to say something behaves in this particular manner before. The singlish sentence has only 5 syllabus, but in standard english it would be around 7 syllabus. This shows that generally Singaporeans place emphasis on efficiency. The word 'one' is definite and suggest that something is sure to occur in this manner, showing that Singaporeans are generally convinced that their way of thought is right. '
lah' on the other hand indicates understanding or a common assumption)
So much said, time to end off. =]
